  • ASA Athletes making Big Strides in Metrowest League

    Published on December 16, 2015
Exciting Weekend for "A Step Ahead" Athletes. In the first game of the weekend Newton 7th Grade Division 1 would face off against Brookline 7th Grade Division 1. In an exciting game Newton would edge out Brookline by a score 64-57. Four athletes from Coach Allan's 7th Grade Team would all play well including Brookline Forward Aaron Shlayen grabbing multiple rebounds and started numerous fast break opportunities to keep Brookline in the game. It would once again be the defense played by Duncan Bubar that would be the difference, contesting multiple shots while maintaining position to grab defensive rebounds. While Michael Antonellis would get it done offensively attacking the rim and finding open gaps within Brookline's Zone Defense.

This weekend also brought some exciting 6th Grade games as well, seeing two more "A Step Ahead" athletes taking the floor, and leading their teams to victory. Marat Belhouchet would hit huge free throws, and take the bulk of the ball handling responsibility to lift his team to victory in overtime. We would also get a great showing from ASA 6th Grade Select member Jason Antonellis. Jason would have a great game both defensively and offensively including scoring the first 10 points of the game.
