About A Step Ahead Basketball

Now in our 22nd year, A Step Ahead Inc. (ASA Hoops) has become a year-round operation offering clinics, classes, camps and AAU. In 2018, over 3,500 participants have entered our programs. This up-coming year will be our biggest yet, with over 55 camps scheduled and the expansion of our AAU program ASA Hoops will be one of the biggest basketball operations in New England. Participants, boys and girls, range in age from 7-18 and have come from communities throughout New England and across the globe.

Five Steps to success...

A Step Ahead Inc. is a youth fitness provider that specializes in basketball. This is an instructional based program that encourages a strong work ethic in each participant. There are five areas of concentration a participant will experience while attending our program:

Each participant will learn various fundamentals of game depending on their own particular skill level. Intensity of instruction is individualized based upon one's ability to comprehend and exhibits a healthy work ethic.

Participants will be encouraged to compete against oneself as well as others. Within each day and or week at an ASA camp/clinic competition is reinforced with positive feedback and instruction. Having an environment in which healthy positive competition is a key component in helping to motivate participants to achieve their individual goals.

Character Development
At ASA we encourage children to become leaders and role models on and off the court. We expect and encourage each participant to exhibit good sportsmanship, while stressing the importance of showing respect for their peers, parents, teachers and coaches.

As a staff we work to build each child's self-esteem by focusing on the positive aspects of their ability. We further this by improving their weaknesses (social, physical, comprehension) while helping them apply their improvements to their game.

A Step Ahead has found a successful balance of instruction, competition and play that leaves participants with a positive feeling of self achievement and enjoyment at the conclusion of camp/clinic.
