  • ASA 5th Select: Tourney of Champions

    Published on October 27, 2015
What a weekend for the ASA 5th Grade Select (Alex) team. With a tough schedule against the three headed monster of the Boston Bobcats, Middlesex Magic, and Mass Elite, it made for an interesting road to the Championship game.  The first battle against the Boston Bobcats the boys came out firing. With a huge lead out of the gate, it became an easy battle, as we rolled 52-18. Every player on the team scored. Ball movement and defense were the keys.

Game two was similar to game 1. Right off the bat, it was 8-0 with all 8 points by Guard Dylan Capua of North Attleboro, two 3’s and a layup. Score 42-20. With only 38 points allowed in the first two games, ASA 5th was looking like the favorites to win the American Silver Division.

Game three did not come as easy as Game 1. Facing a familiar foe in Mass Elite 5th, it was tied 18-18 at half. The game was changed by one miraculous play by Guard Braeden Shrewsberry of Wellesley. After beating his man to the basketball, he threw a no look pass to Forward Sam Rudikoff of Newton for an easy layup. From then on we held the momentum, finishing the game with a 33-29 victory.

After a great run, the Central Mass Lions came out on top in the Championship game. Either way, it was a solid tournament for the ASA 5th Select team.
