  • McCarty Camp blog Newton 8/22

    Published on August 26, 2014
It was another great week for A Step Ahead Basketball hosting Walter McCarty Camp, as its last Summer Basketball Camp in Newton for 2014.  This was not only our last camp in Newton this Summer but it was also the last opportunity for athletes to be invited to attend Walter's 100 Camp which is being held at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston, MA. With the athletes realizing this was the last opportunity for an invite to Coach McCarty's elite event their best efforts were on display all week.  With an experienced coaching staff, and athletes that were continuously competing for invites there was some very close competitions with Caleb, Jesse, and Joey taking home full court 3v3 Championships for there respected divisions. While in the half court teams of three would compete throughout the week to see who would mold best together and again it was an exciting opportunity to watch these athletes compete. Taking home Championships in half court 3v3 were Jonah, Joshua, and Elijah in the D-League, while Sophia, Brad, and Avery took the NCAA, and Riley, Glenn, and Joey would take home the hardware for NBA. With all the hard work being put forth, Friday afternoon was exhilarating for both athletes and coaches as a Surprise Guest,  Boston Celtics First Round 6th Pick Combo Guard from Oklahoma State University Marcus Smart came to speak on the importance of working hard on both ends of the floor. When asked about his defensive believes Marcus Smart simply answered "Points wins games, but Defense wins Championships". With Smart's great energy and enthusiasm of starting his career in Boston we wish him the best if luck and will certainly be cheering him on, and we hope he continues to attend ASA Camps in the future. We here at ASA would like to thank all of its athletes who came out to camp this Summer and we look forward to seeing you in the fall for classes and clinics as well as more camps next Summer.
